Fostering Resilience in Communities Affected by Trauma and Violence

Community violence can have a significant impact on individuals, families, and communities. Witnessing community violence and death can be traumatic experiences that can lead to negative mental health outcomes.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has released a fact sheet intended to provided useful information about how to cope with grief, and offers tips for helping children deal with grief.

SAMHSA is a branch of the U.S Department of Health and Human Services charged with improving the quality and avaialability of prevention, treatment, and rehabilititivae services in order to reduce illness, death, disability, and cost to society resulting from substance abuse and mental illness.
