The NJPCA Maternal Health Resource Hub helps New Jersey’s FQHCs improve maternal health outcomes and reduce disparities by providing state and national tools, trainings, and quality-improvement programs designed for clinical and community teams.
National Workforce Development & Training
National programs and training initiatives that strengthen the maternal health workforce through education, skill-building, and leadership development.
- Postpartum Support International (PSI): Perinatal mental-health training, certification and NJ chapter webinars.
- MCH Navigator (HRSA): Competency-based e-learning on maternal and child health leadership, systems integration, and workforce skills.
- Maternal Health Care e-Learning (HHS): Federal course on Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) and person-centered maternal care.
New Jersey Maternal Health Initiatives
New Jersey’s statewide system is led by the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) and the New Jersey Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Authority (NJMIHIA). Together, they coordinate quality improvement collaboratives, workforce programs, and innovation hubs.
- NJDOH Maternal & Child Health Program: Within the Division of Family Health Services, this program leads statewide data tracking to improve maternal outcomes.
- NJ Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Authority (NJMIHIA): Established by state legislation, NJMIHIA coordinates state-wide quality improvement, data and policy efforts and oversees the Maternal Care Quality Collaborative.
- NJ Maternal Care Quality Collaborative (NJMCQC): Operates within NJMIHIA to coordinate quality improvement and data efforts to address maternal morbidity and mortality.
- Perinatal Quality Collaborative of New Jersey (PQCNJ): Led by the NJ Hospital Association, improves perinatal care quality and alignment with AIM bundles.
- Nurture NJ: Statewide strategy led by the First Lady to eliminate racial disparities in maternal and infant health.
- NJ Maternal & Infant Health Innovation Center (MIHIC): A Trenton-based hub, led by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) in partnership with NJDOH and NJMIHIA, promoting research, workforce training, and innovation in maternal care delivery.

- Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) Safety Bundles: National ACOG-led initiative that provides evidence-based protocols.
- CDC Hear Her Initiative: Provider and patient materials promoting early recognition of urgent maternal warning signs.
- American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) District III (NJ-PA-DE): Regional education, clinical guidelines, and CME webinars tailored to obstetric providers in New Jersey.
- Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN): Clinical practice resources and training for respectful maternity care.
- March of Dimes: Clinical toolkits on preterm birth prevention, infection control, and quality improvement.
- American Heart Association: The Role of Cardiovascular Health in Maternal Health provides training on cardiac-risk identification and coordinated pregnancy care.
